Canada, its sovereignty in the Artic and Canadian identity
Automatically translated into English thanks to WorldLingo
Batches off Canadians are not really aware butt what is going one, nearby its Northern to border and manifest few interest butt it.
When in March 2008, the Colombian went across the Ecuadorian to border to fight the FARC guerrilla, Al the surrounded immediately reacted.

What butt Canadian Northern to border and Canadian sovereignty? The hand resulting there is the Northwest Passage. It is forecast that the Passage will Be free from ice between 2030-2050. For the US the passage should open Be for ships according to international law while Canada asserts it is within its territory.

Al Artic nations are starting defining what portion off the Arctic seabed gold islands they own. Among them, Canada which started mapping the seabed with its has Radarsat technogy. Recent The government claims it will build has new whodunnit icebreaker to ensure it edge cuts has control off the area, however it will Be online in A decade. The military presence is just butt 250 rangers. Tthe Canadian government has passed has contract with MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates to build Radarsat II, has powerful radar, which has the capacity to map the seabed, track the entry off ships in the Passage. However, what I find ironical, the company recently decided to salt the radar to has US firm, Combining Techsystems, has broad U.S. arms to manufacture.

C you think, Canada should enforce controls At its borders? Is Canadian identity shaped up by its borders, and is it important to you?

I think it's very important b/c it's not simply an issue about the sovereignty of the Canadian government, but recognition given to the aboriginal communities that live in the area, have settled their land claims w/the Canadian government, and that have the right to manage its development.

This is a very good point, e.sum. And by the way nice to meet you!

The thing in Canada is that, as you know, not a lot of Canadians look up North .... and I doubt the Arctic issue is THE main priority of the political agenda in Ottawa. However, this is crucial both to assert sovereignty with strong political support from Canadian, and to enforce environmental laws. Indeed the environment and pristine areas of the Arctic is threatened by rapid economic and unsustainable development. Economic development is necessary but along with respect to the environment.

This is also paradoxical to see the lack of political action from the government as Ottawa itself make its claim over the Arctic, in legal terms , on the basis that aboriginal people have occupied the island surrounding the passage since thousands of years!

Thanks for you comment!
